SCDA Instructor Bio
Name: Stephen Butcher
Occupation: Motorsport Operations Specialist; SCDA: Driving Instructor, Rosmar Racing: Crew, Lime Rock Park: Flagging & Communications
How long have you instructed with SCDA: Have been a driver and instructor since 2012.
Current Track Car: Most anything with wheels that goes fast ! Yet, my most driven track cars are a Pontiac Solstice GXP or a Mazda, Miata MX 5 race prepared by Rosmar Racing.
Daily Driver: Jeep, Liberty 4 X 4 The Gray Ghost
Favorite Track: Virginia International Raceway. It was my first full race day event on a Regional Competition License. VIR and the NC Region of SCCA were great hosts. It is very technical track to drive with lots of elevation changes, I miss the Ol’ Oak Tree.
Most Memorable Track Experience: During a SCCA Drivers School at Watkins Glen International I was excited and thrilled to be all setup with a well prepared Flatout race rental. It was a typical and beautiful fall day, it was cool, a drifting fog and a very light rain. This was a perfect combination for relearning some car control and race craft. At the race start, the dry line was spotty, the checked flag drops, now full throttle speed into Turn 1, it’s a diving sharp Right Hander, lots of fast traffic looking to advance position coming into a vertex, a little late and too long on the trail brake ………….. wwohooooooo, spinning out into the run off…….. continued without an incident, nice series of 360’s on video.
What are your top 3 bucket list items: Search for the perfect line, Daytona 24 Hour, to enjoy friends and family
If you could have any superpower, what would you choose: To transform into a successful and a competitive F1 Driver.
Anything else you would like to share: Many Thanks to everyone that helped me to become a better person.
